My name is Kent Scott and I'm the owner and one of the teachers at Island English.  I'm from Ohio in the USA.  I graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Philosophy in 1991 and came to Japan not long after.  I've been teaching for more than 20 years.  

I've used all my experience and knowledge to make Island English the best English school.  I want all our students to find the joy and sense of accomplishment that comes with speaking a different language.  Study, practice and speak; it's all great fun.

私は、アイランドイングリッシュの代表で、講師のケント・スコット（米オハイオ州出身）です。オハイオ大学哲学科を卒業し、その後、来日。２０年以上、英会話講師として、指導しています。

当スクールには、今まで、培ってきた経験とノウハウをすべて、取り込み、子供達が、英語を学ぶ喜びと、母国語でない、違う言語を話せる達成感を味わってもらえるような時間を見つけてほしいです。英語を勉強すること、練習すること、そして、話す事は、実は、とても楽しい事なんです！！

伊勢で生まれ育ち、高校の時に、アメリカのハイスクールに1年間留学し、帰国。関西外国語大学を卒業後、英会話講師として、15年以上幼児から大人までの指導経験が有ります。小学校英語指導者資格も取得し、日々、小中高生の英検クラスや初級クラスのアシスタントスタッフとして、お子様達と英語の楽しさを分かち合っております♪

現在は、高校生と大学生の２児の母で、オーストラリアにも１年間、家族で移住。海外留学、英語の学習方法、子育ての悩み相談まで、保護者の方とも連携し、お子様に一番の英語環境を提供できるように努めてまいります。

My name is Yuki Matsuda.  I'm the manager of Island English.  I was born and raised in Ise, and I spent one year at High School in America before I came back to graduate from Kansai University of Foreign Languages.  I've been teaching English education to students ranging from kindergarten to adult for fifteen years and am qualified for J-Shine.  Now I'm teaching Eiken classes for elemtary to high school students as well as assisting for beginner classes.  

I'm the mother of two girls, one in High school and the other in University.  We spent one year together in Australia as a family when they were very young.  From my experiences I can give advice to students and their parents about English and even studying abroad.  

I try my best to encourage the students to have a broad vision of their future and help them get the skills they need to live their dreams.  

Hello, my name is Scott Arthur. I am from Houston, Texas, and I grew up in Port St. Joe Florida. I attended US Navy college and took correspondence courses on Information technology. I have been teaching English at Island for three years and I was recently promoted to Head Teacher. I have 14 years of teaching experience and I really enjoy my work! Let`s explore our world in English, see you in the classroom.

Hello! 私は四日市松本教室のマネージャー、幼児クラスのアシスタント、および英検クラスを担当している瀬川順子です。 
アメリカ ペンシルヴァニア州の大学に留学し、自国とは違った生活、文化、慣習などに直接触れ、また、様々な国の人々と異文化交流を楽しんだりと、とても貴重な経験をしてきました。 
卒業後、幼児から、中学生の英会話講師として、また、翻訳、英語事務などの仕事に従事してきました。 
海と魚類が好きなので、時々、海外の海にスキューバダイビングを楽しみに行きます。 
再び、アイランドイングリッシュで子供達に英語でコミュニケーションすることの楽しさを伝え、一緒に学べることにとても幸せに感じています。 
子供達の吸収力は驚くほど早く、語学力も継続することでどんどん伸びていきます。子供達が生の英語に触れ、正しい発音を習得できるよう、何より楽しくレッスンを受けてもらえるように精一杯お手伝いをさせて頂きます。 

I'm Junko Segawa. I'm a manager of Matsumoto School in Yokkaichi, support for Discover classes, and teacher of Eiken classes. I went to University in Pennsylvania USA, experiencing different cultures and customs from Japan, gaining first-hand knowledge of people with from cultures. These experiences were of great value. After graduating from college, I worked teaching students from very young ages to junior high, as well as doing translation and office work. I sometimes go abroad to enjoy scuba diving, because I like the sea and fish.

I'm glad to show students the joy of communicating in English, and to be able to learn with them. I'm surprised by their rapid understanding, and how reinforcement adds to their vocabulary.

I will help them to be able to use real English, get to know correct pronunciation, and savor the joy of lessons at Island English School.

Hello hello!!!!! My name is Matt Wood. I am from New York State. This will be my third year living in Japan and my second year working with Island English.

I want to travel and see more countries. Mostly I want to take a one month tour of Europe. My current hobbies in Japan are playing golf, playing baseball and watching movies. My top 3 favorite foods are steak, pizza and hot dogs.

I am looking forward to another fun and exciting year of learning ENGLISH!! I truly hope to inspire and teach you all something new!

Those junior high students have become high school students now, they try Eiken every year, and their English abilities are getting better and better.

Extracurricular examinations such as Eiken are becoming important for high school and university entrance exams. Let's enjoy English together at Island and try to pass Eiken!

三重県志摩市に生まれ、旧波切中学から宇治山田高校へと進学しました。

中学時代が一番勉強した時期であったと思います。このとき、独学でも頑張ればそれなりに成果は出るものだと自信を深めていました。

高校に上がってからも、独学で頑張っていたのですが、中学ほどには成績は伸びず。中学生の頃、もっと効率の良い勉強方法を学んでおくべきだったと、後悔を覚えました。

その後、新潟大学教育学部中学校課程に入り、主免許に技術、副免許に社会を習得して卒業しました。

このまま地元に戻って教員にと言う選択肢も有りましたが、自分の可能性を試したくなり、一念発起して漫画家を目指しました。

丁度折良く、親戚が漫画家になっておりましたので、そこの門下生として修行することになりました。

しかし、漫画の修行よりも他のアルバイトに費やす時間が多く、なかなか成果が出せずにいました。

その最中、両親の急な不幸に見舞われ、失意のまま帰郷することになりました。

親孝行できなかった後悔と、両親の供養をしたいこともあって、地元志向に考えを改めました。

幸いにして教員免許が有りましたので、１０年間教職員の仕事を務めておりました。

そのとき、子どもの可能性や素晴らしさを思い知りました。その可能性を伸ばすため、日々努力を重ねてまいりました。その間、小学校教員の免許も習得しました。

しかし、祖父母が相次いで他界し、教職員になろうという情熱も潰えました。

慣れない職を幾つか経験した後、縁有ってアイランド学習塾の講師を任されました。

教職員生活で培ってきた技術と経験を活かせればと始めましたが、再び子ども達の素晴らしさに触れ、今はその才能を伸ばすことに新たな生きがいを感じています。

今後とも、子ども達の可能性を広げるよう、微力を尽くして頑張ります。

I was born in Shima in Mie Prefecture, and went to Nakiri junior high school (present-day Daio junior high school )and Ujiyamada high school. As I studied hard from the age of 13 to 15, I was sure my tenacious efforts would pay off.

However, I became stuck in the agonizing period of the seeming “no progress” when I was a high school student. I regret not having learned more efficiently when I was a junior high school student.

After graduating from high school, I entered Niigata University, Faculty of Education, and I got teachers' certificates for Industrial arts and Social Studies. Graduating from the University and returning home, I decided to become a cartoonist rather than a teacher because I wanted to know if I was up to the challenge.

Some of my relatives are cartoonists, so I made up my mind to work hard as an “apprentice.” However, I did not have enough time for that, because I had to spend more time doing a part time job. What was worse, my parents passed away, and I felt sad, and I went back to my hometown.

I regret not having lived up to my parents expectations and I hoped to hold a memorial service for them, both of which made me go back to Mie.

After that, I was working as a teacher for 10 years.

Then, I got to know students' potentials and greatness. In order to help better them, I tried hard to get teachers' certificate of elementary school.

However, my grandparents passed away, and since I became disappointed, and gave up my dream of becoming a teacher.

Going through with some jobs that were new to me, I found Island English School to be suitable for me, and I became a teacher at the school.

Taking a lesson from skills and experiences I had gotten through teaching, I came to know students' skills are great beyond description, and now I want to make them better.

Hello, everyone! 伊勢桜木教室で幼児クラスのサポートをしている横山 陽子です。

私にも小学生、幼稚園、未就園児の３人の子供がいます。毎日育児家事だけで手一杯ですが、一日の中でほんの少しの時間を見つけては英語の本を読んだり、日記を書いたり、英検テキストを解いたりと楽しんでいます。

私と英語の出会いは小学1年生の時です。アメリカのシカゴに約4年半住みました。現地の学校に通い、あの頃は何も考えずにまるで日本語を話すかのように英語を話していました。帰国してから数10年が経つ今でも幼少時代に習得した発音とヒアリング力は宝物です。聞き取れることは話せることへの第一歩。ぜひ皆様のお子様にも幼少期から本物のネイティヴに触れる大切さをこのIsland Englishで体感して頂けたら…と思います。

I am Yoko Yokoyama, an assistant in Discover classes at Sakuragi school.

I have three children, elementary, kindergarten, and a baby, respectively.

I am busy with child-rearing and household but I try to have fun to read books written in English, keep a diary, and answer questions on Eiken texts.

I came across English when I was in the 1st grade of elementary school. I lived in Chicago in America for four years. I went to school there and I was speaking English as well as I spoke Japanese.

Now that ten years have passed since I came back to Japan, the pronunciation and listening ability I acquired in my childhood are what I like very much. Listening clearly is key to speaking well.

I would like your children to know the importance of speaking to native speakers, when they are little children, at Island English school.

桜木、常盤教室で小学生の英検、文法クラスを担当しています上田恵です。 
これから高校、大学受験で必要とされるリスニング力は、受験生になったからといって急に習得できるものではありません。英検クラスでは英検のリスニング問題に加え、oxfordのreading treeの本の音読とＣＤを聞くことを宿題としています。これらの積み重ねでリスニング力が身についていきます。 
また小学生にとっては難しいと思われるような英文法もreading treeの本の中でも使われているのを見て、今勉強している文法は「普通に使う言葉なんだ」とわかってくれます。勉強した単語、文法を使ってどんどん英語で表現できるようになってもらいたいと思っています。 

I'm Megumi Ueda. I teach elementary school-level Eiken and grammar at Sakuragi and Tokiwa schools.

Students cannot rapidly acquire listening skills for High school and university entrance exams just because they become examination takers. Students there are supposed to do homework such as listening for Eiken and Oxford books, including “reading tree,” to read the book aloud, and to listen to CDs attached to the books. The more they practice, the better their listening ability becomes.

Also, elementary school students find that English grammar seemingly difficult for them will not be so difficult, through a book “reading tree.” I hope that they will be able to use English through words and grammar they have learned at our school.
